Employers in New York State are now obligated to provide paid prenatal leave to eligible employees, allowing for up to 20 hours per year. This leave can be utilized in hourly increments and is designated for health care services related to pregnancy.
This new leave is an offshoot of NYS Paid Sick Leave; however, there is no accrual, the law covers pregnancy, trouble becoming pregnant, future pregnancy and more. There are a lot of nuances to this leave that will require new policies, handbook updates, and more.
Further details regarding eligibility criteria and usage guidelines will be communicated in the coming months.
Effective Date: January 1, 2025.
